I accidentally went a little overboard with my project, but I’ll keep this video fairly short so you have time to check out the rest of the lineup.

I’ve had these boxes of Heart table scatter from Target in my stash for a couple of years.  You know how it is when you are out shopping and think “I know what I could make with that!”  And in the cart it goes.  Then it sits on a shelf.

Since today’s theme is using wood, I knew I had to pull these out.  And the first thing I wanted to do was make valentine theme planner paperclips.

Since I didn’t want to leave them as plain wood or as plain white, I experimented with a few ways to dress them up a bit.

  1. Stamping.

I don’t know why I didn’t try this sooner!  We all have SOOOO many stamps that this is a great way to dress things up a bit.  The wood pieces already have great dimension, so this was a super easy addition!  I may try heat embossing next time.  😁

  1. Painting.

I used some inexpensive acrylic craft paint, straight from the bottle, for this group.  I wanted to see how the would look.  The paint gave a flat or matte finish and I love the way those little hearts turned out.

  1. Acrylic Craft Paint mixed with Gloss Gel.

Am I the only one that buys supplies after seeing it used by someone else but I don’t know what to do with it so I never try it?  And it just sits on a shelf or in a cabinet, taking up space?
Well, I decided to give some of my unused art supplies a go in this project.
The gloss gel seems to extend the use of the paint and gives it a glossy finish… it also adds just a touch of dimension… or at least I think it does.  I added some glitter over the paint/gel and it seems to be sticking pretty well, but I can’t really see what kind of texture is under the glitter.  I think it looks a little like frosting on a cake. 🦄

  1. Acrylic Craft Paint with Translucent Embossing Paste.

This may be my favorite of the bunch, but there are lots of mediums that I haven’t tried yet and they all create a different and unique look.
The translucent embossing paste takes on the color of the paint (because it’s translucent) and is HIGHTLY textured.  You can create all sorts of hills and valleys and peaks…. I just LOVE the way these look!
And I love the color!  I’m not much of a color mixer, but I gave it a try with these pastel paints.  2 parts light blue and 1 part yellow gave me a soft teal or mint color…. And that’s one of my favorites!  🥰

  1. Using a stencil.

For the last bunch of wooden hearts, I decided to change it up a little by using a hearts stencil.

Love, Love, Love them all!!!

After making a BUNCH of planner paperclip bookmarks with most of the decorated hearts, I used a few to add to a simple slimline card.
