Printing, Foiling and Cutting Planner Stickers From Start to Finish

    Hi Crafty Friends! Over the last few weeks, I’ve been making planner stickers, and decided to get out my foil (that I haven’t played with much) and try out making some foiled stickers.  So I pulled out my laminator, turned on the camera on my tablet, and put together a couple of videos so you guys could see my experiment.  So today we will be printing, foiling and cutting planner stickers, from start to finish!</p>

        <h2>Time to Print! </h2>        
    <p>I had just finished creating some <a href="https://debbiejscraftingcorner.com/product/date-covers/" data-wplink-edit="true" style="transition-property: all;">date cover</a> and <a href="https://debbiejscraftingcorner.com/product/pretty-bows/" style="transition-property: all;">bow stickers</a> in standard black. Then I thought they would be real cute in other colors. So I changed some of the colors and made 3 more digital sets. The <a href="https://debbiejscraftingcorner.com/product/date-cover-printable-planner-stickers/?attribute_color=Rainbow" style="transition-property: all;">rainbow set</a> got me thinking that this would be super pretty in foil.

First, I took the stamp set png files and pasted them to a word doc. I made sure that the dimensions for each was 4” x 6”.  (I’ve decided that it’ll be better if I just create PDF files. It will be easier to make sure that they are the right size.)  Then I printed the word doc onto sticker paper with my laser printer.

PLEASE NOTE! 

 YOU WILL NEED A LASER PRINTER OR A COPY MACHINE BECAUSE THE FOIL STICKS TO THE TONER!

Time to Foil!

This is the point where I started recording the first video.

In order to foil your images, you’ll need a laminator and some foil… uh, that was probably a given. Dur…  I used my Scotch Brand Laminator and some ICraft Deco Foil that I ordered from Amazon. 

Turn on the laminator and give it time to heat up.  I put min on the 5 Mil setting to get it nice and hot.

Next, cut the foil to slightly larger than the area that you want to foil. Then, you’ll place it over the printed images (the foil is only going to stick to the printed part) and run it through your laminator.  If you’ve watched the video, you saw that I first used a sheet of printer paper as a carrier sheet… that did NOT work well.  Because the foil beneath the paper didn’t get hot enough to stick, and I had to run it through the laminator a second time.

Next comes the reveal.  That is probably my favorite part of crafting.  It is too cool when you pull back a stencil, or foil in this case, and see the awesome result.  

The stickers turned out just beautiful!

Making Foiled Planner Stickers?  How to Kiss-Cut with a Scan N Cut

        <h2>Time to Cut! </h2>      
    <p>I have two ScanNCut machines, so I’m using my <a href="https://amzn.to/2BLiw9a" style="transition-property: all;">SDX125</a> for today’s project.  Since I don’t have a <a href="https://amzn.to/2U48Lde" style="transition-property: all;">Cricut</a> or <a href="https://amzn.to/2End0Lv" style="transition-property: all;">Silhouette</a>, I can’t advise how to cut out planner stickers with one of those machines.

I uploaded the SVG files that I had created to give a small offset for the sticker into the online Brother Canvas Workspace Software.  

Each of the two sets has an SVG that contains a cut file for the 4” x 6” border, and a cut file for all of the stickers. This is because we will be cutting twice. Once to Kiss Cut the stickers, and once to fully cut the frame.  So I am creating two 4” x 6” sticker sheets.

Make sure that the total measurement for each set is 4” X 6”. (I know I’m running this into the ground. But one of mine uploaded small and I had to group and resize it. Watch the video to see how.)  This is, of course, if you are foiling stickers that you downloaded from me. If they are from somewhere else, just make sure that your cut file matched the stickers that you printed out.

Once I arranged the cut files, I transferred the files to my machine.

The really great thing about the ScanNCut is that I can scan in an image of whatever I want to cut out. 

So I scanned in the sticker sheet and lined up the sticker files (deleting the border cut file…. Don’t worry, we’ll bring it back later.) Then I set the ScanNCut to “half-cut” the stickers.  The 2 main differences between my new and old machine are the noise (new is much quieter) and the auto-blade on the new that means I don’t have to continually adjust the blade!

After it was done printing, I pulled the cut files back into the machine and deleted everything except the border.  I made a second copy for the second sticker sheet and lined them up with the printed border on the sticker paper.

Then I adjusted the machine, turning “half-cut” off, and let it finish cutting.

I really LOVE how these turned out. (except I think I need to make another set with larger week days and date covers… and maybe the bows too… that’ll be another project.)
