Today I made a Bewitching Halloween card, just for fun. I used the “Spook up some fun” stamp set from Simon Says Stamp. I’ve been meaning to use the fun images in this set ever since I got it quite a while back. I love those witchy legs!

I am always saying that Halloween is the PERFECT time of year to grab some of your supplies that haven’t been given enough love and play.

This card is another great example of WHY I keep saying this!

The Bewitching Card

I haven’t done much ink blending or masking in a while, so that’s what I did on this card. The mask I cut from some post-it tape. After placing it over the witch, I added distress inks to the panel, starting with Wilted Violet around the edges and ending with Squeezed Lemonade in the center.

The secret to getting a good blend (besides making sure you are using really smooth paper… I think I was using Accent Opaque White) is to go over it twice. That way you use enough ink for them to blend well together. Of course, you could always put down even more ink if you really wanted to.

I used a distress sprayer to add some splatter, and I love how these inks react to water. This gave a really cool texture to the panel.

Then I removed the mask and colored my witch legs image using Spectrum Noir Alcohol markers. These blend really well… sometimes a bit too well. To bring out some additional contrast, I went back over the darkest and lightest colors. It’s amazing what doing that little extra step can do for your coloring!
